Facility Highlight: San Bernardino

Congratulations to the San Bernardino facility for earning the highest destination audit score from the AAR. San Bernardino, lead by Chris Pope and his management team, earned an outstanding score of 99.99%! San Bernardino handles over 350,000 vehicles annually and logged the second most man hours at any Inter-Rail facility in 2017. A lot of hard work, preparation and dedication contributed to this amazing audit score. Pictured is Chris Pope receiving the award at the AAR conference in Nashville, Tennessee in early July. Congratulations to the entire San Bernardino team!

Manager Highlight: Angel Mercedes

Angel Mercedes, the Operations Manager of the Inter-Rail Tampa facility, is the highlight manager of August. Angel started working for Inter-Rail in March of 1999. He worked as an unloader until 2002, when he had to take a leave of absence. Angel returned to work at the Tampa facility on February 1, 2003. Angel worked hard, applied himself and earned the supervisor’s position in 2005. Over the next 10 years, Angel dedicated himself to learning the job and the facility the best he could. It was in 2015 that Angel was promoted to Assistant Manager of the Tampa facility. Angel has worked extremely hard over the years and remained steadfast in perfecting his craft. When the Manager’s position became available in August, Angel was ready for the challenge. On August 3, he earned the position of Operations Manager of the Inter-Rail, Tampa facility. Angel is a true testament to the phrase “Hard work pays off!” Angel recently took his first trip to Disney World with his  wife, Rebecca. He also has two children, Thomas and Caroline. They thoroughly enjoyed visiting Epcot and hope to return soon! Thank you, Angel, for your 18 years of service and outstanding dedication to the Tampa facility and Inter-Rail!

Facility Highlight: New Boston

Congratulations to Team New Boston, which scored an impressive 100% on the AAR Audit! Team New Boston has been hard at work over the last year preparing for the audit. Jon Brancheau, the Operations Manager, was originally hired as a mechanic doing class 1 inspections on outbound trains. He cross-trained in operations and within six months of being hired he was promoted to Operations Supervisor on his 1-year anniversary. Jon was still eager to grow and was soon promoted to Assistant Manager in September of 2016. It was in August of 2017 that Jon accepted the position of Operations Manager. Brancheau stated that team New Boston’s commitment to earning a 100% on the AAR Audit stemmed from a disappointing score in 2017.  In addition, some contributing factors to their outstanding score was auditing each supervisor’s crew weekly, posting audits to show the crew that management is paying attention, stressing the importance of AAR audit scores, working individually with each supervisor to ensure the job is being done right, and building crews that complement each other. Through dedication, hard work, commitment and perseverance, the entire New Boston team not only improved their score, but also earned a perfect 100%! Congratulations to the entire crew and management at the New Boston facility! Keep up the great work!
